Rooted in
Portland Since 2016
We started with a trowel and a conviction that Portland's urban gardens deserved better than contractor-grade plants dropped in untested soil. Nine years later, that conviction still drives every project we take on.
From Three Raised Beds
to 600+ Gardens
TerraBloom started in 2016 when co-founders Miriam Osei and Cole Whitfield built three community raised beds in the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood. What they discovered quickly: the soil in most Portland residential lots β compacted, clay-heavy, often amended with material that locked out nutrients β needed genuine remediation before anything could thrive.
They developed a soil assessment protocol that remains the foundation of every TerraBloom project. Before a plant selection decision is made, we know your soil's texture, drainage rate, pH, nutrient profile, and compaction depth. It takes a week. It changes everything.
Today TerraBloom is 12 people β horticulturists, soil scientists, garden designers, and maintenance specialists β working across Portland Metro. We've never lost the original conviction: ecology before aesthetics, soil before plants.
Every project begins with lab-grade soil testing. We treat your soil as a living system, not a substrate for holding plants upright.
We prioritize Pacific Northwest natives and regionally adapted species. Gardens that support pollinators, birds, and soil life β not just aesthetics.
Clear pricing, written proposals, honest plant health assessments. We will tell you when a plant won't work in your conditions β even if it's your favorite.
